Throughout the year, running events center at various locales throughout Maryland. The Maryland Running Guide provides information on running clubs and places to run.

During the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, Katie Zaferes of Hampstead (Carroll County), Maryland, won the Bronze Medal in the Women's Triathlon, which consists of cycling, running, and swimming. Zaferes won the International Triathlon Union's World Triathlon Championship in 2019.


[photo, Annapolis Striders' 10-Mile Run, Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, Maryland] On the Eastern Shore, in Ocean City, the annual Storm Warriors 5K Run/Walk next will be held on November 11, 2023.

The St. Michaels Running Festival will take place in May 2024.

The Annual Governor's Bay Bridge Run (10K) crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge from the Eastern Shore to Sandy Point State Park in May from 1985 to 2006. Its successor, the annual Chesapeake Bay Bridge Run/Walk, started in November 2014. The sixth largest 10K in the United States, it next will be run on November 12, 2023.

[photo, Annapolis Striders' 10-Mile Run, Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, Maryland] In Anne Arundel County, the B&A Marathon and Half Marathon next will be held in March 2024. In Maryland's capital city, the Annapolis Striders sponsor marathons and other events, including the annual Annapolis 10-Mile Run, which next is scheduled for August 27, 2023.

In Baltimore County, the Baltimore Triathlon will take place at the Hammerman Area of Gunpowder Falls State Park September 30 and October 1, 2023.

Baltimore City has many running events. Moreover, the Baltimore Road Runners Club sponsors running and walking events year round, and the Annual Fort McHenry Tunnel 5K Run/Walk next will be in October 2023. Also in "Charm City," the Baltimore Marathon, also known as the Baltimore Running Festival, will be held October 14, 2023. The 26.2-mile race features some $100,000 in prizes. The Baltimore 10 Miler will be held on June 3, 2023 in Druid Hill Park, while the Baltimore Women's Classic 5K will be held June 25, 2023 at Power Plant Live.

The Maryland Half-Marathon & 5K, a charity run benefiting the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, now held in Maple Lawn in Howard County, will next be held June 10, 2023. Previously, it had been held in Timonium, Baltimore County.

In Frederick, the Frederick Running Festival will next be held May 4-5, 2024.

In Montgomery County, the Froggy Hollow 5 & 9 will be held in Clarksburg in Feb. 2024.

Also in Montgomery County, the Nanty Narking Nearly 9K & 2 Mile Fun Stroll was held in Sandy Spring in May 2016 and 2017. It followed a path by local historic sites, and offered Civil War era music as well.
