The Task Force to Study the State's Retiree Health Insurance Liabilities was created by legislation effective July 2002 (Chapter 348, Acts of 2002). Its charge was to review the report on retiree health care of other states prepared by the Department of Legislative Services in 2000. An actuarial valuation of the liabilities associated with the retiree health insurance subsidy also was to be commissioned by the Task Force, and paid for by the State Retirement and Pension System. With its recommendations, the Task Force was to submit the cost of each option proposed.

The Task Force never met.
