The State Treasurer is elected by joint ballot of both houses of the General Assembly (Const., Art. VI, sec. 1; Code State Government Article, sec. 5-101).
In February 2011, the Joint Committee on the Selection of the State Treasurer was formed by the Senate President and House Speaker. The Committee is to review resumes of interested parties, and conduct interviews on February 23, 2011. When the election of the State Treasurer took place on February 24, 2011, the Committee's work was done.
