In October 2007, the Baby Boomer Initiative Council was authorized (Chapter 506, Acts of 2007). The Council was to develop a model with recommendations for addressing the needs of the baby boomer population, defined as those born between 1946 and 1964. Further, the Council was to consider how best to utilize the baby boomer population as an asset to the State, particularly as they retire from careers, and look for purposeful activities.

Those Council members representing academic institutions jointly were to study the economic impact of older workers on the economy, and the social impact of older workers and their activities in the community.

Authorization for the Council ended December 31, 2011.
