In July 2017, the Prince George's County Pretrial Release, Work Release, & Diversion Programs Task Force was authorized (Chapter 457, Acts of 2017).

The Task Force studied how alternatives to detention, such as pretrial release, work release and diversion programs, are organized and operated in other jurisdictions. Whether such programs would be effective in Prince George's County and what categories of offenders would be eligible also was considered by the Task Force. Finally, the Task Force evaluated what would be required to establish such programs in Prince George's County, and made recommendations concerning the establishment of a pretrial release program, work release program, and a diversion program in the County.

To the Governor, General Assembly, and Prince George's County General Assembly Delegation, the Task Force submitted its report in December 2017.

Authorization for the Task Force ended June 30, 2018.
