In October 2007, the Forensic Laboratory Advisory Committee was authorized by the General Assembly (Chapter 147, Acts of 2007).
The Committee advises the Secretary of Health on promulgating regulations that set standards and requirements for the operation of forensic laboratories in Maryland. Since December 31, 2011, all forensic laboratories must be licensed by the Secretary of Health.
Ten members constitute the Committee. The Governor appoints eight members, and two serve ex officio (Code Health-General Article, sec. 17-2A-12).
