In February 2021, the Maryland Vaccine Equity Task Force was created by the Governor.
With the Maryland Department of Health, the Task Force promotes the equitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. At the direction of the Governor, and consistent with applicable law, the Vaccine Equity Task Force partners with the State’s 24 local health departments, as well as community stakeholders, to increase Marylanders’ access to the vaccine.
Through federal, State and local government agencies, and community and private organizations, the Task Force identifies, educates, and vaccinates vulnerable, underserved and hesitant Marylanders. These include minorities, non-English speaking populations, and those in hard-to-reach areas across the State. To make this happen, the Task Force leverages resources with close ties to key communities, including the State’s Vaccine Advisory Group, the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives, the State’s network of Medicaid providers, and additional public sector and community partners.
The Task Force evaluates county plans and targets resources at equity-focused vaccination efforts. It also serves as a clearinghouse for proposals and requests from nonprofit, faith-based and community organizations that serve vulnerable populations.
