DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

In 1968, the Department of Housing and Community Development was established to join together agencies concerned with community development, housing, and building code enforcement.

The Department seeks to revitalize communities, create and preserve affordable housing, enforce codes, and support homeowners.

Five units come under the Department: Administration, Communications, Information Technology, Operations, and Policy and Partnerships.


HOUSING AUTHORITY OF BALTIMORE CITY

Established in 1937, the Housing Authority of Baltimore City provides affordable housing and programs for the elderly and those with disabilities.

Under the Authority are eleven departments: Capital Planning, Communications, Engineering/Energy/Construction, Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, Fiscal Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal Affairs, Planning and Development, Public Housing and Rental Assistance Demonstration, and Resident Services. The Authority also manages the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
