DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

In July 2020, functions of the General Services Department, formerly under the County Administrator, were merged with the Department of Public Works. Consequently, since July 2020, the Department of Public Works also has been responsible for Buildings and Grounds, Mosquito Control, Mailroom Services, and Capital Improvement Projects that are related to facilities.

Under the Department are six Divisions: Engineering and Transportation, Fleet Maintenance, Highway Maintenance, Project Management, Solid Waste and Recycling, and Water and Sewerage.

ENGINEERING & TRANSPORTATION DIVISION
Formerly called the Engineering Bureau, the Engineering and Transportation Division develops, coordinates, issues, evaluates, and monitors proposals and contracts for highway maintenance and capital projects. The Division also reviews residential and commercial plans for subdivision plats, and for building and grading permit approval. Moreover, it collects and monitors bonding, and coordinates road development and stormwater management inspections.

ENTERPRISE FUND OPERATIONS
Formerly called the Utilities Bureau, Enterprise Fund Operations is responsible for two divisions: Solid Waste and Recycling, and Water and Sewerage.

The Solid Waste and Recycling Division directs the landfill, the solid waste collection system, and the recycling program.

The Water and Sewerage Division oversees water and sewerage management for the County (County Code, secs. 16-101 through 16-201).

GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

Within the Public Works Department, the General Services Department oversees and maintains County facilities, including parks and recreational facilities. It manages and inspects capital projects, and also provides pest abatement and mosquito control services.

Under the Department are four divisions: Buildings and Grounds; Mosquito Control; Natural Resources; and Parks and Recreation.
