ORIGIN & FUNCTIONS


On November 6, 2012, Frederick County voters adopted a charter form of government, which became effective December 1, 2014. Since that time, the County Council has served as the Legislative Branch of County government.

The County Council consists of seven members elected to four-year terms by the voters. Five members are elected by district, and two are elected at large (County Charter, secs. 201-214).
