DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

Created in 1988, the Department of Public Works operates through five bureaus: Engineering, Environmental Services, Facilities, Highways, and Utilities (County Code, secs. 18.1000, 18.1001).

BUREAU OF ENGINEERING
The Bureau of Engineering provides engineering, architectural and surveying services for all agencies of County Government.

BUREAU OF ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
The Bureau of Environmental Services collects refuse and operates facilities for the processing, handling, recycling, and disposal of refuse. The Bureau also administers the stormwater management program.

BUREAU OF FACILITIES
The Bureau of Facilities maintains all County-owned buildings.

BUREAU OF HIGHWAYS
The Bureau of Highways maintains County roadways, bridges, and drainage facilities. The Bureau repairs potholes, removes snow, unclogs pipes, plants trees, mows rights of way, erects guardrails, replaces curbs, fixes traffic signals, and installs street name signs (County Code, secs. 18.200 through 18.212).

BUREAU OF UTILITIES
The Bureau of Utilities is responsible for the County's water and sewer service (County Code, secs. 18.100A through 18.125).
