ORIGIN & FUNCTIONS

HAGERSTOWN REGIONAL AIRPORT

The Hagerstown Regional Airport serves Western Maryland, South Central Pennsylvania, the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and North West Virginia. It started in 1934 as the Municipal Airport of Hagerstown. Largely financed through the federal Works Progress Administration, improvements were made to the Airport in the 1930s.

In May 1981, ownership of the Airport transferred from the City of Hagerstown to Washington County Government. The Airport was renamed as Washington County Regional Airport on August 25, 1981. To avoid confusion with the many Washington counties across the country, the Board of County Commissioners changed the Airport's name again to Hagerstown Regional Airport on October 6, 1998.
